Class Description
Have you ever wanted to learn about the ancient practice of creating from mud?! (i.e. ceramics) Let’s all put on our aprons and get our hands dirty as we learn to create various objects through handbuilding techniques. We’ll learn how to make several things like bowls, jewelry, cups/mugs, birds and explore sculpture techniques—depending on student interest.
Along with learning the basics of ceramics–tools & and techniques – this class will incorporate art history from a Christian perspective and the practice of seeing art as a means of connecting with Jesus and others.
Did you know the first person mentioned in the Bible to be filled with the Holy Spirit was an artist?! Exodus 31:1-6
I hope together we can learn about the meaningful practice of making.
Class Requirements: This class would be ideal for students who enjoy learning and are willing to grow in their practice of learning to be patient. I’ll do my best to keep us all moving and making, but it can be expected that we’ll be waiting for objects to dry, fired, glazed, refired. The more we practice, the more satisfying the experience will become.
I will expect students to be calm—-this would make learning much easier.
***Ceramics can be a bit temperamental. Things can break or not turn out. It’s part of the process. Together we’ll navigate this. But it’s good to know in advance.
Materials Needed: Apron & possibly objects to use when printing in clay as stamps. (*Maybe pine needles, lace, various found objects, students will know in advance.)
Teacher: Joseph
Cost: $15.00
