Class Description
Each student will start their own micro business. They will learn the different business models such as for profit, non-profit, franchise, etc. And decide if they will be selling a good or a service. Throughout the semester they will write their own business plan step by step each week as they learn market research, pricing techniques, brand analysis, competition analysis, customer profiling, and ways to fund their business venture. They will create their own advertisements and logos. Learn about intellectual property, patents, and business contracts. They will also sharpen their sales techniques by pitching their ideas to mock “Shark Tank” investors. I will be using the “Gather Round” Entrepreneurship Middle School level curriculum. Each week we discuss different successful entrepreneurs such as Martha Stuart, The Hall Brothers of Hallmark, Thomas Edison, as well as Rebecca Spooner who created the Gather Round curriculum, and how she has kept her business model kingdom-minded. I invite parents to check over this entrepreneurship curriculum through the Gather Round website ahead of time to see if it would be a good fit for your student.
Class Requirements: Students who sign up for this course should be eager to start a business with 1-2 business ideas ready to go the first day. Age 8 is likely too young, but I’m open to having students that are age 9 or 10 that are already entrepreneurial minded such as asking to have lemonade stands, making and selling jewelry, or mowing the neighbors yard already. I will teach them how to scale up these types of micro businesses.
Materials Needed: A 3-ring binder. They will be writing in their notes and ideas, and I will have worksheets for them each week.
