Class Description
In this class, the kids and I will look at the Biblical mandate of what it means to be good stewards of creation. Some ecology will be included in this class, but only on a light level. We will hear from a few Christians working in the field of ecology and conservation. At the end of the class, students will be able to defend the idea that the biblical concept of ‘dominion’ refers to stewardship, not exploitation. They will identify evidence of God’s love and care for creation in the Bible. We will examine and describe several ways humans are harming the earth and the impact it is having on the most vulnerable in society (We will look at and discuss the arguments for and against Climate Change). As a side project, students will participate in restoring an ecosystem and caring for creation in other ways (possibly participate at Wittenbach Agri Science and Environmental Nature Center in spring clean-up. This would be after co-op hours and done with mom and dad or as a field trip for the class.) We will look at the Christian virtue of gentleness to deepen students’ spiritual growth and examine wonder as a way to show gratitude towards God for what He has done for us.
