Class Description
This is a 1st hour Kinder transition class tailored for kids just out of preschool. Recommended age 5. No reading required. We will be in a traditional classroom downstairs and practice walking together to our 2nd hour class(es) after a quick bathroom break.
Age appropriate skills we will do our best to cover:
Trace their own names with various art media (markers, pencils, paints)
Reading comprehension and retention skills from the book “I Wonder Why Skunks Are So Smelly”
Complete patterns
Mix secondary colors
Thumbprint stick figures
As a class, read and spell all the student names on the white board
As a class, read and count at least 0-20 by 1s and 5s
Teamwork scavenger hunt, block towers, balloon game, telephone game
Review days of the week and seasons
Animal parent/baby match
Learn and spot shapes
Practice conversational manners and introducing ourselves
Observe fruit and stages of plant growth (inside an apple, growing from a seed)
Create art collages
Ordinal numbers
Measure inches and feet
Hopping, jumping, and balance practice
Lacing skills
Scissor skills
Prewriting tracing skills
Practice doing buttons and zippers
Class Requirements: Students should be able to follow instructions and do okay with paint.
Materials Needed: Please send them with their own water thermos! Kids get thirsty. All other materials provided.
